The annual Cairns Festival celebration will also take place from 20 August until 5 September, hosted by Cairns Council and the local community for the past 48 years. Some of the home-made Cairns creative projects slated for the 2010 season include a musical dinner theatre production exploring the legend and wonders of Paronella Park, several diverse jazz programs, and a classical music event presented by Cairns Civic Theatre and directed by noted local violinist Leigh Paine. Local foodie Nola Craig has organised our culinary celebration, Taste Paradise, from Palm Cove to The Pier. In addition, Festival event partners will be presenting a new theatre work intended for the Botanic Gardens, the popular Big Band Extravaganza offered by CairnsBands with the Australian Army Band, and a multi-site photographic installation. A highlight of the 2010 Cairns Festival will undoubtedly be the Cairns Indigenous Arts festival takes place on Friday the 20th of August, showcasing the best contemporary and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. The display and art sale is on at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns (46 Collins Street), and entry is free. This is a unique and special event which invites first-time buyers, investors and the curious to seek out exciting new artists and view paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, new media art, works on paper and fibre art, while enhancing their understanding of Queensland's Indigenous arts.
